At last, the book is out!  Fun collaboration with Linnea Johansson (Author) and Tadeu Magalhães (Art Direction & Design).  It features recipes of get-togethers with our friends in Brooklyn.  You can see some of the images here -> linnea johansson-cook book or flip through the book below:

Flavour – Dining App

A very stylish new app to find your city’s best restaurants, tailored to your current cravings. Once you select your location, choose a destination based on neighborhood, cuisine and special requests. All of the suggestions are culled from food critics, bloggers and locals:

http://www.getflavour.com/

Since this app was designed around my photography (food styling by David Bouley), I am obviously a little biased when it comes to it’s look…  However, it’s not only beautiful but also very useful and highly functional.  Download it here for free.  Covered cities:  NYC, Chicago and San Francisco.

New You Magazine – Feijoa Mocktail

If you didn’t know what a Feijoa & Kiwi Spritzer Mocktail looks like (or how to pronounce Feijoa), you are definitely not alone.  It’s delicious however, even without the alcohol…  If you feel inclined, here’s the recipe: (ingredients and drink shot for New You Magazine / ‘Sips & Bites’ article)

A Feijoa & Kiwi Spritzer Mocktail

Ingredients: 10 Lemon Verbena Leaves, 4 Mint Leaves, 1 Feijoa (Pineapple Guava, 1 Kiwifruit, 20ml Green Kawawa Tea Syrup, 10ml Fresh Lime Juice, 150 ml Mineral Water

Scoop fruit and place in glass with mint, verbena, lime and syrup.  Lightly muddle together (do not puree).  Top and fill with ice.  Fill 2/3 with soda water.  Use bar spoon to lightly mix.  Top with ice then soda.  Garnish with Lemon Verbena Sprig.

Feeling like changing the M in Mocktail to a C?  Add Sweet Vermouth and you will start pronouncing Feijoa (fey-yohuh) perfectly within a half hour.  Cheers!

Nutrilite – Liquid Body Shapes

Another demanding & fun liquid art campaign.  To show the benefits of Nutrilite milkshakes, we were asked to shoot & create liquid body shapes.  40 gallons of Nutrilite chocolate & vanilla milkshake were poured, splashed, thrown and splattered along our custom made plexi rigs.  Our well worn kiddie pool took another beating and the clean-up was epic. Thanks to Jiae, John & Kara for all their creative input, and to my fantastic team -> liquid stylist, botanical stylists, rig maker, assistant, digital tech and retoucher.

Escape to Hawaii – new location work for Microsoft

No matter where I go, I love to find circumstances where a landscape or cityscape becomes a canvas for patterns and people.  Similar to a still life shot in the studio, I try to find a frame to compose and let the light or the movement of shadows and people create an interesting pattern.  Sometimes this happens very quickly and sometimes it takes a while, which makes a great shot even more rewarding.  Seeing that perfect balance and composition are often already present in nature (or combined with man-made structures) is mind-boggling and beautiful in itself.  Capturing it is a great thrill and this time I had the privilege of doing it for Microsoft, to visually translate their new Threshold campaign brief:  deeply personal – universally human – individuality – flexibility – intelligent – do great things!

Stay up late!

Here’s a quick preview of a cook book we’ve been working on this spring with a well known Swedish Chef…  No, not that one -> this one!  Linnea is just as funny, but actually knows how to cook.  Not sure about her meatball tennis skills, though.

Working title of our project:  Stay up late

Chapters and recipes all revolve around sharing a good meal & good drinks in good company.

L’Oréal Powder Explosions

A lot of dedication and testing went into this shoot for the Spring 2014 campaign of French cosmetics client L’Oréal, for Clarisonic’s Festival of Colors launch.  From creating a custom rig (expertly built by Megan Caponetto) to using Kapture laser triggers and Bron high-speed flash, everything had to be adjusted perfectly to capture the initial stages of powder explosions.  Many thanks to Megan, Tim, Logan, Tomo & Sasha for their help and input throughout the assignment.  Once more, I could rely on the support of a great team to blow stuff up and enjoy it!

Costa – Bluefin Tuna

Not sure if we can go any bigger than what we did this time! Mark built three more fish for Costa, among them a Steelhead Salmon, a Bonefish and an 11 foot Bluefin Tuna.  Check out the impressive ‘making of’ and the stills from this series.  We’re now up to 8 fish.  Still no CGI, still no digital imaging, just fantastic art direction, model making and a few lighting tricks up my sleeves to capture each of them in-camera, in a single shot.

Costa – designed for fishing, obviously…
