The FoodPhoto Festival in Denmark once again brought together some of the most renowned food photographers, stylists, art directors and magazine editors from 32 different countries, to exhibit their images, conduct workshops, portfolio reviews and conferences. I was happy to attend again and to hold two workshops on Daylight Food Photography, as well as a conference on the same topic. A big thank you to organizer Guenter Beer and his team, who did an amazing job producing the World’s only FoodPhoto Festival. Here are some impressions from Vejle:
An assignment that brought back vivid memories from my childhood. Chocolate and mint as a combination was always difficult to resist and I can’t remember how many kilo tons of York Peppermint Patties and Thin Mints I ate as a boy. A true after-dinner tradition & experience together with my father. When Hershey’s got in touch for new packaging executions, I was willing to be paid in product, but my agent nixed that proposal for some reason. I guess she’s not as big a fan 🙂
Another great chocolate enthusiast I could win for this project was Food Stylist Nir Adar, who is an absolute master when it comes to chocolate and ice cream styling. We couldn’t have had a better collaborator on this endeavor. Thanks also to Fernanda at Hershey’s and Anna & Sylvie at NiCE for a seamless pre-production and a super pleasant shoot. You were a all gems to work with.
Wonderful collaboration with world-class illustrator Ben Wiseman, for the launch of Westfield department stores at the World Trade Center Oculus. Lovely combination of photography and illustration, stills and motion. Much gratitude to Jen, Jason, Erin and Alexia at Mother NY for excellent creative direction and for keeping the shoots running so smoothly.

Tumi’s ‘Brains & Beauty’ campaign for the new Mariella tote. Happy to see that brains is mentioned first! Like the bag, our set is usually highly functional and OCD neat (see image below); looking at you super digitech Jonathan 🙂 In black, it could even be used as a man’s bag, right Joey…? Our fantastic AD/CD team of Jay, Bee, Tim and Dana made it a pleasure to work on this project and our prop stylist made it a pleasure to shoot -> Alex Niki / ThePropStylist

Anybody who knows me is well aware that beer is one of my absolute favorite beverages, to shoot and to enjoy after a good gig. Years back when I thought of clients I would love to work with, Stella Artois was always among the top of my list – beautiful aesthetics, clean lines, a clear visual identity & excellent beer. I’m very happy that I now got to collaborate with Stella on their Global Holiday Ad Campaign, through Mother NY. It was as much fun shooting the dancing chalices and bottles as it was to scream STELLLAAAAAAA all day long, trying to impersonate Marlon Brando in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire.’ It easily turned into one of the most enjoyable assignments of the year. The creatives at Mother were wonderful partners in this endeavour and my team made me look good, once again.
Wishing you all very Happy Holidays and a great 2017 – Cheers!
I love to travel and when I’m not shooting stills, food or liquids in New York, you’re likely to find me near a beach, mountain or hot spring somewhere on this planet. The lovely people of Erwin Penland let me combine my stills with travel imagery for our latest job with TUMI. An absolute pleasure to work with the whole EP creative team, especially Dana Kandic, art producer extraordinaire!
