Anybody who knows me is well aware that beer is one of my absolute favorite beverages, to shoot and to enjoy after a good gig. Years back when I thought of clients I would love to work with, Stella Artois was always among the top of my list – beautiful aesthetics, clean lines, a clear visual identity & excellent beer. I’m very happy that I now got to collaborate with Stella on their Global Holiday Ad Campaign. It was as much fun shooting the dancing chalices and bottles as it was to scream STELLLAAAAAAA all day long, trying to impersonate Marlon Brando in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire.’ It easily turned into one of the most enjoyable assignments of the year.
Anheuser-Busch launched its first hard root beer and I had the privilege of creating the initial campaign for Best Damn Root Beer / BDRB. The alcohol content of this root beer was at the heart of the brief and producing visuals that speak to brewing (brewing cellar / sumptuous foam) were a requisite for this series.
Handcrafted tea, organic ingredients and real ice – a delicate and visually lyrical approach for the new Pure Leaf / Tea House Collection campaign, by Pepsi-Lipton. To highlight craftsmanship and quality, we decided to shoot on a tea master’s work bench – a beautiful piece of white washed ash. We sent out two food styling teams to gather wild blackberry bushes in Upstate New York & Western Pennsylvania and our dedicated prop stylists and producers embarked on a round the globe journey for in-season White Honeysuckle. How we finally found it merits a separate post; all I can say it was incredible and worth all the effort! Thanks to Makoto Aoki at Swell for having the ‘back-up hand made super gorgeous White Honeysuckle’ ready, just in case.
The joy to be selected again by Archive for ‘200 Best Ad Photographers Worldwide 2016/17! I was planning on working as a lifeguard in Hawaii, but it got postponed by the jury of Archive. Sending my sincere gratitude to all who have collaborated with me over the years to create beautiful work, and most importantly, shared a good time.
We continued our series with Maker’s Mark for their iconic Maker’s 46 Bourbon Whiskey. Since it is only made during the winter months, we’ve decided to shoot it on a frozen lake. In the studio. With real ice. Well, maybe it’s easier to understand if you watch the video below…
The Art Directors Club of New York selected 24 aspiring creatives from 24 different cities around the globe, during their ADC Portfolio Nights. Each Portfolio Night city selected one person as their Portfolio Night All-Star. Throughout the first week of August, the All-Stars traveled to New York, where they participated in the third installment of ADC Portfolio Night All-Stars Week, to work together on a real creative project for a global brand.
I had the pleasure of hosting this incredible group of young creatives at OFFSET for a Drinks Photography workshop and fun shenanigans afterwards. Take a peek to meet the ADC All-Stars:
Craftsmanship. Not a word usually used when drinking Tequila. In this case however, craftsmanship was not only evident in this smooth Tequila, but also in the crystal clear ice made by Okamoto Custom Ice Studio. “If you have such a quality spirit like Dragones, to dilute that with conventional ice is not ideal,” according to Okamoto. “Exceptional ice allows for minimal dilution and to bring out the purest, cleanest flavor when serving Casa Dragones Blanco on the rocks.”
Since we prefer shooting with real ice and real ingredients, he turned out to be the perfect collaborator. You can check out the incredible ice sculptures made by Okamoto studio here -> http://www.okamotostudionyc.com/
The brief for this series was pretty straight forward: Maker’s 46, shot on red – bold. Together with the agency, we were able to expand on this concept quite a bit. We incorporated the iconic red wax from the seal of the bottle as the main visual element that ties everything together. Megan’s wax melting & pouring skills for all the surfaces / backgrounds as well as her hand made miniature props were really quite impressive…! Even Graphis concurs and recognized the ads with a gold and silver award in this year’s Graphis Advertising Annual 2015.
